Hope Persists

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:5 (NET)

This week I spoke with my girls who expressed their passion for creating change in the world, and not only with powerful words expressed in passionately raised voices, but through educational forums for youths who trust her judgment and knowledge; providing a platform for exemplary young men who activate others to stand up for their causes; joining citywide protests, fearlessly adding her voice to the calls for justice and peace; speaking up in a workplace conversation where her color and views were in the minority.  These conversations make me hopeful for the next generation, simply because the next generation will carry the torch of hope.

Our hope is not limited to the expectations placed on those who come after us, but is rather firmly secured in the God of our Salvation, “who loves us and has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with love” (Romans 5:5).  The reason we remain hopeful is because of LOVE.  Love propels us forward, overriding hate and healing hurt.  Let us love Yahweh first, love ourselves and really begin to love our neighbor as ourselves.  This type of love will lead to the wide dispersion of the hope that does not disappoint.  Romans 5:3-4 speaks of problems and trials that test our faith but also leads us to develop endurance and this endurance builds strength of character which only increases our confident hope of salvation.  As believers, our trials come in various forms and as we navigate our lives we must ensure that we remain hopeful.  Never lose faith in Yahweh and the power of His love.

Today I share my hope with this generation and the generations to come

Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope You give to us through Your love and by your Holy Spirit.  May we share that hope with others even as we are bombarded with trials and tests of our faith.  May we look beyond the present trials and see that you are in control, guiding our steps and choosing our paths to salvation and to your kingdom.
